THERE are lots of plants that can be grown in baskets, including bright coloured annuals, trailers and small ever green shrubs that can provide structure all year round.

THERE are lots of plants that can be grown in baskets, including bright coloured annuals, trailers and small ever green shrubs that can provide structure all year round.

Choose a colour scheme such as pink or white or use hot reds, oranges and yellow. Prepare the soil properly:

l Three parts of loam soil
l One part of manure
l A half part of an old tree back for easy drainage

Remove one of the hanging chains from a 14 inch wire hanging basket and stand the basket on the ground.

Cover the inside of the basket with a green nylon net liner. To prevent too much water from escaping, lay a plastic bin liner on top of the nylon net liner. Make sure none of the black bin liner is visible.

Put a few holes in the bin liner for ease of drainage. Put the prepared soil half way in the basket. Place your plants and cover the root balls with the remaining soil.

Firm the soil around the root balls and water. Happy gardening!
