THE Police in Tororo district are holding a man suspected to have defiled a three-month-old baby girl.
Desiderio Etyang Opio, 33, was arrested from Nyalakoi, in Mukujju sub-county.
The baby was briefly admitted at Tororo Hospital but was referred to Mulago Hospital.
A senior nursing officer who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident. “The genitals of the child were severely torn and that called for special medical attention at Mulago Hospital,†she said.
Tororo criminal investigations officer Noah Byamugisha said Etyang would be taken to court on charges of aggravated defilement.
The mother said she had left the baby asleep and went to fetch water. Etyang, who is a neighbour, used the opportunity to defile the baby.
