WEST Nile residents have been given an opportunity to view world champion Jackson Asiku’s belts.

The International Boxing Organisation champion, who hails from Maracha, West Nile, will today have a procession in Arua town.

Dubbed “The World Champion’s Home Coming,” the procession will have the boxer’s motorcade moving through the Arua streets before displaying the belts at Boma ground.

“It’s only fair that West Nile is part of the celebrations,” said the boxer who wants a title defence in Uganda.

The last time the area had a similar event was in 2005 when athlete Dorcus Inzikuru won a world championships gold medal.

Asiku beat Mexico’s Heriberto Ruiz in November 2009 to win IBO crown. He had earlier in the year also won the IBF Australasia featherweight title.

The Australia based fighter returned to Uganda last week to a heroes’ welcome at Entebbe airport.
