SOUTH African tactician Norman Mbiko will prepare the Rugby Cranes sevens team for the this year’s Commonwealth Games in India in October, writes Johnson Were.

Mbiko popularly referred to as the grand father of South Africa rugby, is expected in the country before end of June.

Mbiko is the Springboks selector for the U-21 to the senior side and a former Springboks sevens coach in 2000-2001. He was part of the 1995 Springboks team that won the Rugby World Cup.

“We want a strong team for the Commonwealth Games and Mbiko is coming to prepare exactly that,” Rugby Union chairman William Blick said yesterday. Mbiko handled Uganda’s World Cup qualifiers team that missed out narrowly.
