THE Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to promote entrepreneurship among the youth.

The move is aimed at fast-tracking economic development, Olive Kigongo, the chamber president, noted.

“The youth are the country’s most vibrant workforce and our hope in entrepreneurship development.”

Kigongo was speaking during the launch of the Young Achievers website, www.youngachievers.ug, at Humura Resort in Kololo, a Kampala suburb, last week.

The chamber’s first step in encouraging business among the youth, Kigongo said, was through supporting the Young Achievers project initiated by Tetea Uganda.

Tetea is a local media and development consultancy firm.

The company organises the annual Young Achievers Awards (YAA) to encourage investment among the youth.

Kigongo explained that to enhance investment growth in Uganda people, especially the youth, should be encouraged to start businesses at an early age. She added that those who excel must be recognised to encourage others.

Awel Uwihanganye, the Tetea Uganda director, was optimistic that the website would be key in promoting networking between Tetea and the public.

He said the website would enable Tetea members, young achievers and well-wishers interact.

“This has been done to boost publicity of young achievers and to network,” said Uwihanganye, adding downloading development-related information from the site is free for all.
