A 40-year-old man identified as Patrick Kakiga from Kyazanga in Masaka has abandoned his wife after she gave birth to triplets.

The wife, Jolly Mbabazi, 22, is stranded in Masaka with the sick three-week-old babies.

Residents of Masaka led by taxi drivers started a fundraising drive for the mother and the babies.

The regional Police spokesperson, Noah Sserunjogi, said the Police in Masaka were searching for Kakiga who sold the family house and the banana plantation at sh800,000 before fleeing with another woman.

“My husband abandoned me in hospital with sh5,000. When I went home, I found the plantation and house sold. I am worried because Kakiga is extravagant with money, it must be finished by now,” Mbabazi said.

She said she is having difficulty breastfeeding the triplets because she lost one of the breasts to cancer.

“I only have one breast and my babies look sick because they do not get enough milk since I starve at times,” Mbabazi said.

The taxi drivers rented a room in a lodge for Mbabazi and the babies.
