OFFICIALS in Kamwenge town council have terminated a sh151m contract awarded to Omega Construction Company to tarmac Station Way Road.

The 350-metre road which stretches from Kamwenge town to the railway station, was contracted to Omega in 2008 and work was expected to have been completed by June 2009.
The council engineer, Apollo Muganzi, said the delayed works prompted the authorities to petition the Ministry of Works to have the contract terminated.

He disclosed that after consulting the state minister for works, John Byabagambe, he was advised to use 35 per cent of the funds to re-advertise the contract before the end of this month.

The council had earlier paid the company 65 per cent of the contract sum. “I have written to the Omega management to arrange for the hand over of the road to the council because we need another contractor to finish the work,” Muganzi told journalists on Tuesday.

However,Herbert Ndyomuhirwa, the Omega project coordinator, denied that their contract had been terminated.
