President Museveni has banned the use of exercise books to prescribe drugs and register patients in government health centres.

He said the use of books by health workers was fuelling corruption.

Museveni said each health centre should have proper documents with a copy retained at the facility and another at the National Medical Stores and the health ministry.

He said the use of properdocuments would help track drugs and crackdown on health workers who steal medicine.

The President issued the ban while officiating at the launch of the partnership between Kampala International University (KIU) teaching hospital in Bushenyi and the Government.

The programme will see patients receive free treatment.

Museveni stated that a unit had been set up to deal with workers who steal drugs.
He appealed to the youth to support the fight against corruption.

“We fought people who were stealing and murdering people using guns.We cannot chase those with guns and fail to chase those using pens to steal,”he said.

Hassan Bassajjabalaba the KIU proprietor, appealed to the Government to allocate free drugs to the hospital so that people can access free services.

He said the US, UK, Cuba, Korea, Nigeria, Kenya and Tanzania have assisted in in the establishment of the teaching hospital.
