PITCHING camp in Masulita sub-county, one of the war zones in the NRA struggle, President Yoweri Museveni vowed not to let anyone destablise the country again.
“Congratulations upon surviving the liberation war. I want to assure you that no one can destablise the country again.â€
The President made the remarks at the commencement of his tour of Wakiso to promote the Prosperity-for-All programme.
“The war fought using the barrel of the gun is over. The remaining war is against poverty eradication,†he told a rally in Musulita town.
Museveni inspected farming projects, including one belonging to Yosamu Kigozi in Katooke, Nabweru sub-county. Kigozi rears chicken, has a piggery and operates a farmers’ market.
The President also toured the farm of Emmanuel and Odesha Gashegu of Busujja village in Kakiri town council. The couple runs a poultry and dairy farm, and has a banana plantation.
Later, he visited Mrs. Mukalazi of Katikamu in Masuliita sub-county who has a cattle and poultry project. In the evening, the President inspected the home of Omulangira Kayima of Kyanuuna village who has a banana plantation and two dairy cows on zero-grazing.
He was scheduled to visit widows at Luguzi village at Namayumba sub-county and address a rally in Namayumba sub-county headquarters later.
Museveni made a stop-over at Masulita Secondary School and commissioned an administration, a laboratory and a classroom block.
The school, which has 500 students, is closely linked to the NRA liberation struggle. The headmaster, Ake Saphan Kiyimba, said during the 1981-86 guerrilla war, Maj. Jacob Asiimwe was the headmaster. He joined the NRA fighters with all the teachers and the students.
During the commissioning, the President interacted with the students and cautioned them against HIV/AIDS. “How is HIV transmitted?†he asked.
“Through sexual intercourse,†the students responded. “Those of you who are willing to abstain from sex and promiscuity to guard against HIV, raise your hands,†the President asked the assembly of students. Several of them raised their hands. The President also called a student who had not put up his hand and demanded to know why he was worried. The two chatted.
The President addressed people in Nansana and a mini-rally in Masuliita town. He told enthusiastic crowds that the NAADS programme was meant to give model farmers inputs so that others can learn from them. He said the weaknesses in the implementation of the agricultural programme would be addressed.
