EDITOR—A terrible stench and a horrible sight is what strikes one’s nostrils and eyes as soon as they set foot in Kampala city.

This time it is not the smell of rubbish or marabou stork droppings, but overflowing sewers. Whether this is as a result of shoddy work, blockage of pipes or some sort of unscrupulous handiwork that disrupted the normal flow of this filth, is yet unclear.

What is clear, however, is that the responsible authorities seem oblivious of the whole mess. The National Water and Sewerage Corporation, which is responsible for the sewerage system, should therefore, intervene and fix this degrading sight in our capital city.
