Four Rwandan nationals died on the spot yesterday in a road accident at Kibega, about 18 kilometres from Mbarara town on Mbarara-Kampala road.

The Kiruhura district Police commander, James Katushabe, identified the dead as Isack Wimana, Judith Wimana, Radicius Kamugisha and Kirabo Nampijja.

Their documents indicated that they hailed from Kyicuro village in Rwanda.

The accident occurred when their vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, collided with a bus heading to Mbarara. Their destination was not immediately established.

It took the Police time to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage since their vehicle was reduced to a mangled piece of steel.

Katushabe blamed the accident on over-speeding by both drivers.

He said the car driver was trying to overtake another car in a corner when he collided with the bus.

The driver of the bus fled the scene. All the 64 passengers on the bus escaped unhurt.

“We are lucky to survive this accident. God is great. I couldn’t imagine coming out of this bus safely,” said Godfrey Tumuramye.

Katushabe said the bodies of the four Rwandans will be taken to Mbarara Hospital mortuary.

He cautioned drivers to mind about the life of the passengers.

The DPC urged passengers to stop drivers from driving recklessly and asked them (passengers) to alert the Police in case the drivers refuse to drive responsibly.
