THE Police in Masaka have arrested 20 karaoke entertainers for conniving to kill a primary school teacher who had gone to attend their show.
The suspects, all residents of Lukaya town council, had gone to perform at Kabale Bugonzi in Bukulula sub-county on Friday night.
The LC1 chairman for Kabale town, Sulaiman Kasozi, identified the deceased as James Gabo, a teacher at Bugonzi Parents Primary School. Gabo hails from Mukono district.
“Early morning, a child who was going to fetch water, knocked at my door and told me that she had found a dead man on the path to the well,†Kasozi said.
Some people in the crowd that came to look at the body said the deceased had been in the company of one of the female artists the previous night, he explained.
According to the LCI boss, some of the male artists could have been involved in the killing.
“I have received information that one of the girls who were performing at the stage was seen talking to Gabo after the show. We believe that her colleagues did not welcome this and decided to kill Gabo,†Kasozi said.
Masaka district deputy investigations chief Stephen Etyang said the suspects were under investigation and are detained at Masaka Police Station. Gabo’s body was taken to Masaka Hospital for a postmortem examination.
However, Police suspect a female artiste, Shiba Naiga, whose knickers and other clothings were found in a nearby bush, could have been with the deceased moments before he was killed.
Naiga denied knowledge of the murder, saying her bag had been stolen when they were performing.
