RADIO West, owned by The Vision Group, has launched a cultural dance competition in the south-western region.
On Friday, residents of Bushenyi district witnessed the launch of the Radio West Extravaganza Promotion, Ekitaguriro kya Radio West, at Kizinda ground in Ishaka town. The radio and Igongo Cultural Centre sponsored the event.
Radio West’s sales and marketing officer Alex Mugarura said the aim of the promotion was to mobilise the community to appreciate, and promote culture.
The event will also be rolled out in the districts of Bushenyi, Isingiro, Ntungamo, Mbarara, Kiruhura, Rakai, Lyantonde, Ibanda, Kamwenge, Kabale, Rukungiri, Kanungu and Ssembabule. “The next kitaguriro will be held in Isingiro on February 26. Those of Ntungamo and Mbarara will be on March 6,†Mugarura said.
In Bushenyi, the Bakunda group emerged the winners, scoring 216 points out of 300. They received a cash prize of sh150,000.
Kitwe Cultural Group emerged 2nd with 203 and was given sh100,000, while Nyangi took the 3rd position and went home with sh50,000.
Mugarura explained that the winners from the 10 districts will perform in the grand draw, which will be held in April in Mbarara.
Ishaka mayor Jackson Kamugisha, who handed over the prizes, said the promotion will uplift the cultural standards of the area.
