NIGERIA and South Africa qualified for the Thomas and Uber World Cup finals, after winning the continental championship that ended at Sharing Hall, Nsambya yesterday.

NIGERIA and South Africa qualified for the Thomas and Uber World Cup finals, after winning the continental championship that ended at Sharing Hall, Nsambya yesterday.
The Thomas and Uber Cup is a competition for the national men and women teams, and its world Cup finals are set for Malaysia in May. There will be more action at Sharing Hall with the two-day Africa individual senior championship starting today.
Attention would then turn to the Roofings International to run for three days starting Friday. The Thomas and Uber Cup comes after the Africa U-18 championship held last week. Nigeria, a dominant force in the Africa U-18 show, again produced a brilliant display yesterday.
The team came from a game down to register a 3-1 victory over Mauritius in the Thomas Cup final. Ifraim Jinkam beat Shaheer Ramrakha (21-12, 21-11) while Ibrahim Adamu outwitted Stephan Beeharry (21-9, 21-12).
Nigeria’s Olaoluwa Fabgeni had lost to Sahir Edoo of Mauritius 21-16, 21-15. The Nigeria team later tri umphed in the doubles. Meanwhile, South Africa defeated Mauritius 3-1 in the Uber Cup final.
