A fulfilling sex life is an important way to stay connected to your partner.

The most important thing to boost libido is to have a healthy diet and maintain healthy weight. However, there are specific foods that can boost not only his, but your libido as well.

Moses Ssenoga, a naturopathic doctor, says some foods increase sex hormones, while others elevate mood, boost sperm production and increase blood flow.

“Foods which stimulate your nervous and circulatory systems will send more blood to the sexual organs, resulting in enhanced arousal and performance.”

However, he notes that men have different dietary requirements when it comes to enhancing their sexual performance. Specifically, men should consume foods high in zinc, which boosts sperm production and foods that assist in testosterone production, leading to stronger erections and an increased sex drive.

David Ssali, of Dama Medical Herbs, warns that too much fat can clog arteries and restrict blood flow to the penis.

Processed foods are not healthy and can affect the circulation of blood. Ssali encourages one to have a diet that will keep the heart healthy.

“Eat a low-fat diet with lots of fiber, grains, fruit, nuts, vegetables, milk and protein.”

Some of the foods that you can serve your man and get it hot between the sheets include:

Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds contain zinc. A deficiency can also make a woman completely lose her sex drive. These yummy seeds are also a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are vital to overall sexual wellbeing.

To prepare them, first sun dry the seeds and roast them over gentle fire and serve them as a snack. Alternatively, mix them with roasted groundnuts.

Oily fish
Oily fish are rich in zinc, magnesium and selenium, all vital for a good sex drive. Examples of oily fish include, salmon, mackerel, trout, herring, fresh tuna and sardines.

Oily fish are also rich in omega-3, which makes the nervous system more efficient.

Nuts
All nuts play a role in supporting the libido. They contain essential fatty acids that produce hormones that we all need to stay romantic.

They are rich in L-Arginine, which improves circulation and enhances erectile response. If other nuts are had to get, simply roast groundnuts or prepare groundnut sauce for him.

Celery
Raw celery boosts the production of androsterone, an odourless hormone released through male perspiration during sex. Chop the celery and add to sauce or soup as a spice.

Bananas
Bananas are rich in bromelain, which is important for sexual health. Bananas are also a good source of Vitamin B, which increases the body’s energy. They are rich in potassium, which is vital for the production of sex hormones.

Avocado
Avocado increases both male and female libido. It is rich in folic acid, which assists in digestion of proteins, thus providing more energy.

Avocado also contains vitamin B6, which improves male hormone production and potassium, which helps to regulate a woman’s thyroid gland. You can prepare an avocado shake or serve the fruit as salad.

Asparagus
Asparagus is very high in vitamin E, which is vital for good sex. The Vegetarian Society says eating asparagus thrice a week produces the most powerful effect. Asparagus is rich in folate, a B vitamin, that increases the production of histamine, which is essential for increasing the sex drive for both men and women.

Chili
Chili contains capsaicin, the substance that gives it a burning sensation. These help to release endorphins and other “feel good” hormones necessary for a spicy sex life. Chili also stimulates nerve endings and raises the heart rate. Green chili is hotter than red chili.

Basil
Basil increases blood circulation, stimulates sex drive and boosts fertility. This tasty herb has an aroma that can excite his hormones and stimulate his sex drive. Add a leaf of basil to his coffee or tea.

Garlic
Bad on the breath but good on the sex. Garlic contains allicin, which improves blood flow to the sexual organs. However, allicin is only produced if the garlic has been chopped into tiny pieces.

As a bonus, allicin also fights fungal infection. Prepare a bowl of garlic soup for your man or use it as a spice in his meals.

Cardamom
Cardamom has a nice aroma. In many cultures it is used as an aphrodisiac. Some even use it to treat impotence.

Cardamom contains cineole, which increases blood flow to the sexual organs.

Add 2-3 seeds of dry cardamom to his tea. Alternatively, you can add it to rice as a spice.

Watermelon
Watermelon is rich in citrulline, an amino acid that improves blood flow. Citrulline relaxes the blood vessels, producing an effect similar to drugs like Viagra. Higher concentrations of citrulline are found in the watermelon cover. However, there is still plenty of it in the delicious flesh.

Beans
It does not matter whether they are baked, canned, red, Lima, kidney or navy; beans are rich in zinc. They are also loaded with protein and fiber.

Broccoli
High in Indole-3-carbinol, a compound that helps reduce estrogen levels, broccoli is a great libido booster in men, although it can have the opposite effect in women. Add it to his sauce as a spice.

Eggs
Rich in vitamins B5 and B6, both essential to maintain balanced hormone levels and reducing stress. Plus, eggs are an excellent source of cholesterol, an important precursor to testosterone and estrogen.

However, a couple of things can reduce blood circulation and will hinder the above foods from having the desired effect. The most significant are smoking and drinking alcohol excessively.
