KAMPALA City Council has commissioned a 30-bed children’s ward, constructed and equipped by Plan Uganda, at Komamboga Health Centre in Kawempe Division.

The ward has admission and nutrition wings to cater for the children.

The centre serves Bukoto, Kawempe and Kasangati areas.

The Kawempe Division LC3 chairperson, Hajji Nasser Takuba, said the over sh200m project was a big development as children would now easily access health services.

“The facility has come at a time when we need the services for our children. Therefore, it’s a good development in our division,” he observed.

Takuba, who donated 20 mosquito nets to the children’s ward, warned health workers and the division committee members against inadequate dispensing of drugs to the patients.

He added that the division would also construct a maternity and general wards at the health centre.

The health centre’s in-charge, Dr. Sarah Zalwango, said: “Out of the over 120 patients getting treatment from the centre, 70% are children.”

The division medical officer, Dr. Stephen Nsabiyumva, commended Plan Uganda for contributing towards health services in Kawempe division and Kampala in general. He urged the public to put the facility to good use.

“We need more health workers to provide services to the communities,” he noted.
