THE Mbarara Rally clerk of course David Nsobya was relieved to find the route in Mbarara and Bushenyi in shape despite the downpour in western Uganda.

The opening round of the National Rally Championship, organised by Mbarara Motor Club will be flagged off at Lake View Hotel in Mbarara tomorrow.

“I thought I would find the original route messed up by rain but thank God the roads have not been badly affected. The roads are slippery but passable. I met competitors in the route and they were happy with the state of the roads,” Nsobya told The New Vision by phone from Bushenyi where he was doing the final route check yesterday.

He observed that if it does not rain again, the route may even be dry on Saturday and Sunday.

From Lake View Hotel, cars will head to Bushenyi for three sections and return to Boma ground in Mbarara for the super special stage at noon.

After the super special stage, competitors will head for Biharwe for two night sections before they return to Lake View Hotel. Some crews were in Mbarara yesterday for night route reccing.

On Sunday competitors will cover only two sections in the final leg. The rally has 21 drivers.
