UGANDA’S top tennis player Duncan Mugabe is set to be coached by US top tennis coach Mark Wellington as part of his target to hit higher ground in the world of tennis.

Wellington is a leading tennis coach who handled Russian sensation Maria Sharapova when she won the 2004 Wimbledon championships.

“Mugabe has a duty to improve his conditioning, mental approach and general assessment of his game when he goes to the United States,” Cedric Babu, his coach, said.

“He will participate in a number futures tournaments and in an ATP challenger as part of his target to break into the top 100 players this year.”

Wellington is a performance trainer who specialises in athletic performance.

He has coached world class athletes such as Sharapova (Wimbledon ladies champion 2004), Victoria Azarenka (top 10 women’s tennis player), Martin Verkerk (French Open 2003 finalist) as well as NBA and NFL players.

He is a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certificate holder in the US and also a member of the US National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Mugabe has just won the Uganda Open and Kenya Open tennis championships.

His management team, Kinetic management group, are looking beyond African tournaments to help Mugabe improve his ITF ranking where he is currently ranked 730 in the world.
