THE Uganda Travel Bureau (UTB) has won the award for the longest serving travel agent in Uganda.

THE Uganda Travel Bureau (UTB) has won the award for the longest serving travel agent in Uganda.

UTB is among the 10 travel agents and airlines that were honoured and awarded with prizes at the first ever ‘The Association of Uganda Travel Agents (TUGATA) travel night at the Sheraton Kampala hotel, last week.

Nelson Ggagawala, the trade state minister, presided.

It was attended by leading airline companies and travel bureaus.

Ggagawala urged the travel agents to unite and market Uganda.

Stephen Mworozi, the chairperson of TUGATA, said the travel night shall be an annual event and is aimed at recognising and thanking players in the industry for their contribution.

UTB which took the award for ‘longest serving travel agent’, was started by Ruth Buyenyenzi in the 70s. Bunyenyezi also received an award for the longest serving female travel agent while Daniel Olama won the award for the longest serving male travel agent.

Ethiopian airlines scooped the longest serving airline in Uganda award. Eagle Air took the best domestic flight services prize.

Emirates airlines was voted the best and most preferred carrier due to its excellent services.

The best booking agent in 2009 accolade was taken by Jackline Kiyoko of Panari safaris. Emily Onyut of Swan air took the best reservations in 2009 award. TUGATA was founded in 1999.
