SHE is one of the most talented and popular disc jockeys (DJ) this country has ever produced and she has worked with almost every top club in Kampala.
Now DJ Rachael a.k.a Raynsom has started singing and her new hip-hop single will be out on Monday.

Titled Malaria Woes, the song is about Africa’s number one killer disease — malaria. Asked why she chose to sing about malaria and where she got the inspiration, Rachael says: “Once I was moving around town and I saw men selling mosquito nets.

I decided to do some research about the pandemic and I was really shocked by the result. Can you imagine more people are killed by malaria than HIV/AIDS? Can you believe malaria is preventable and curable? With those results, I just got a pen and paper and wrote the lyrics,” she says.

Is she going to quit dejaaying and concentrate on singing? Not exactly.
Rachael says dejaaying drives her and that she has got many good things from it.

“I will try to adjust and do the two as perfectly as I can. I do not dejaay full-time,” Rachael says.

She is not afraid of the Ugandan market where hip-hop has not been fully appreciated. She says she will do three versions of her single just to tap into all types of market.

“I have begun with hip-hop and very soon, I will be doing electronic music for the international market and a dancehall version of the song for the happening people.”

To prove her seriousness, Rachael is planning a big show on April 25, the International Malaria Day, to spread her message further.

And this, she says, will be the mode of her music all through. “I will do music with a meaning, lyrics that appeal to people to change and act,” Rachael says.

DJ Rachael has worked for Club Silk, Club Rouge, Steak Out, Club Volts, Sombreloz in Jinja and many other happening places. She also does gigs in Rwanda and France every December.
