THE acting Inspector General of Government, Raphael Baku, has withdrawn criminal charges from the Court of Appeal against the suspended Kayunga district chairperson, Thomas Mulondo, and his secretary for finance, Ediriisa Muwanga.

The withdrawal was contained in a March 11 letter to the permanent secretary in the local government ministry.

“We have reviewed the cases against the accused and decided to withdraw the appeal, which has been before the Court of Appeal,” the letter read.

“This means that the prosecution of the accused persons has been terminated. Accordingly the suspension of Muwanga lapses,” it added.

The letter explained that since the district council removed Mulondo from office and his appeal was before the High Court, his resumption of office will depend on the decision of the court.

The letter directed the Kayunga chief administrative officer to pay Muwanga’s salary from the time he has been of out of office.

Mulondo and Muwanga were arrested in 2007 on the orders of the then IGG, Faith Mwondah, over charges of causing financial loss to the district and abuse of office.
