A COUPLE is among five people held in connection with three murders that occurred in the city last week.

Godfrey Ssembajjwe and his wife, Masitula Namatovu, are held in connection with the death of a five-year-old boy last week, Henry Matovu. He was Ssembajjwe’s nephew.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Henry Kalulu, said the boy reportedly died after his uncle hit him on the head while he was playing.

“The boy was playing in a pool of water near their home in Makindye when his uncle returned. Matovu then slapped the boy, who died instantly,” Kalulu said.

He reported that Matovu had stayed with the couple for a month but was often beaten.
The suspects are being held at Katwe Police Station as they await murder charges.

In a related incident, Yunus Wamala was detained at Katwe over hitting Justus Musinguzi on the head last week, killing him instantly.

On the fateful day, Kalulu said, Wamala went to Katwe market where he sells charcoal and wood.

When he arrived, his phone disappeared, a loss he attributed to Musinguzi.
“He grabbed him by the collar and asked him to return the phone but Musinguzi said he did not have it,” Kalulu stated, adding that Wamala then hit Musinguzi with a piece of wood.

Also in custody at Katwe over allegations of killing Henry Ssekabira are Ben Turyagumanawe and Fahd Kaweesi, both residents of Kyengera, a Kampala suburb.

Turyagumanawe, a guard at a school in Kyengera, last week allegedly saw Ssekabira stealing iron bars.

Kalulu said they arrested Ssekabira but he was dead by the time they arrived at a nearby police station.
