CRANES’ prospects against Burundi will largely depend on whether the team successfully adjusts to the more offensive 4-3-3 formation.

Uganda’s march to two consecutive CECAFA Challenge Senior Cup titles owed much to the team’s spirited performances in a 4-4-2 formation

But the need for a couple of goals in Saturday’s Africa Nations Championship return fixture at Namboole will force Cranes coach Robert Williamson to readjust to a more attacking 4-3-3 against a side that was defensively solid and held out for a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

“We will need an early goal to settle the nerves and then try to hunt for more as the game progresses,” a team official confirmed yesterday.

The revised formation will have Musa Mudde occupying the holding role, with Owen Kasule –– if he passes a late fitness test –– and Sula Matovu seated ahead of him in offensive roles in a three-man midfield.

The revised formation will have Bujumbura goal hero Henry Kisekka supported by Tony Odur, with Ibrahim ‘Sadam’ Juma roaming behind the two lead strikers.

Yesterday it emerged that midfielder Kasule has developed a stiff jaw and will undergo treatment today.

Coach Williamson did not want to speak about the player’s condition but remained optimistic that Kasule would be fit.
