A man was on Sunday lynched by boda boda cyclists who over powered a Police officer guarding him at Lukaya town in Masaka district.

Ashraf Kawoya, a resident of Kitti village in Bukulula sub-county, was arrested after he was found selling a stolen motorcycle.

A criminal investigations officer, Charles Balikoowa, was escorting Kawoya to Lukaya Police post when the cyclists waylaid him.

Masaka CID chief Patrick Bamanyindo said the cyclists learnt of Kawoya’s arrest and waited for the Police officer who had gone for him.

“The cyclists started fighting the Police officer, forcing him to flee,” he said.
Bamanyindo added that the cyclists beat Kawoya with stones and sticks, adding that when he pretended to be dead they started to leave.

“But when the Police arrived to carry the body away, Kawoya lifted his head,” he explained.

Bamanyindo said the cyclists realised that Kawoya was still alive and tried to attack him again but the Police stopped them.

“We tried to rush him to Masaka Hospital but he died shortly before we reached,” Bamanyindo added.

Recently, two Lukaya boda-boda cyclists were murdered and their motorcycles stolen.

Bamanyindo expressed dismay over the increasing motorcycle thefts in the area but warned cyclists against taking the law in their hands.

“We have started investigations to identify those who killed Kawoya because they are not judges,” he said.
