ALFRED Achikane, the Policeman alleged to have shot and injured musician Moses Ssali, alias Bebe Cool, together with four others in January had his bail extended yesterday.

He is out on non-cash bail of sh3m, while his sureties were both bonded at sh5m each.

Prosecution alleges that on January 30, Achikane, a special Police constable (SPC) attached to Jinja Road Police station, shot and injured Bebe Cool, together with his bodyguards Abbas Kayoyo, Allan Masengere, Godfrey Kayiza, and a fellow SPC, David Oluka.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at Nakumatt Supermarket on Yusuf Lule Road, in Kampala, in the wee hours of the morning.

All the five were seriously injured, but are now recovering from their gunshot wounds

Achikane, who is charged with five counts of attempted murder, has been on bail since February 23, after spending two weeks on remand at Luzira Prison. His case was up for mention yesterday.

However, state prosecutor Jacqueline Kyasiimire told Nakawa Court Chief Magistrate Deo Ssejjemba that investigations into the shooting are incomplete.

The next mention was fixed for May 4.
The accused was accompanied by his brothers Phillip Anwangkane and George William Onyeragui who are his sureties. Attempted murder carries a sentence of life imprisonment upon conviction.
