CAMPAIGNS for the Padyere county byelections kicked off yesterday following the nomination of five candidates.

The constituency in Nebbi district fell vacant last month when the area MP, David Ringe-Chan, died.

The district Electoral Commission (EC) returning officer, Kenneth Kayabwe, said Dr. Pascal Odoch (NRM), Okwir Amula (FDC), Charles Alangi (UPC) and Joshua Anywar (independent) were nominated on Thursday.

Ngabirombo Kizito, who disputed the FDC primaries, was the last to be nominated on Friday as an independent.

For the first day of campaigns, NRM was in Kucwiny sub-county, UPC in Parombo, FDC in Nebbi, Anywar in Nyaravur and Kizito in Zeu. The campaigns are to run for 22 days.

He revealed that for five days starting on Saturday, candidates’ papers will be displayed at the EC offices in Nebbi town.

Meanwhile, the display of the voter register is ongoing at the 161 polling stations in the county.

Kayabwe said the EC will recruit polling officers.
