EDITOR—I concur with Susan Carolyn on her view that the new system of filing tax returns online introduced by the URA is a joke. (The New Vision, March 26) The URA should have tested the system well in advance before introducing it.
As of now, it is very painful to use.
For example, when I tried to fill in my company’s bank details in the online application registration forms, the system rejected the information and indicated an error! But when I removed the bank account details, the system accepted the forms as having no errors!
In the end I had to submit the application forms online without the bank account details. I submitted my company’s application forms for allocation of a new TIN and access code details online more than one month ago but since then the firm has not been allocated a new TIN nor access codes yet URA now demands that all returns must be done online!
The returns cannot be done online without a new TIN and access code being given to a taxpayer by URA. I think URA, like many other Government agencies rushed into whatever policy they could think of, rushed into this e-tax filing thing. It appears to me that the URA currently has no ample capacity to implement the e-tax system.
