THE Masaka sheikh, who allegedly accused President Yoweri Museveni of being behind the burning of the Kasubi tombs, appeared before court in Masaka yesterday and was granted bail.

THE Masaka sheikh, who allegedly accused President Yoweri Museveni of being behind the burning of the Kasubi tombs, appeared before court in Masaka yesterday and was granted bail.
The chief magistrate, Moses Katoroogo, granted Muhammad Matovu Kigongo bail of sh500,000, not cash.
Kigongo, a Democratic Party diehard, is also speaker for Kibinge sub-county,
The two sureties, Sembabule Woman MP Hajati Hanifa Kawoya and Bukoto East DP chairman Dick Lukyamuzi Sennyondo, were each asked to pay sh2m, not cash.
About 10 other people, including DP and NRM supporters, came to pledge surety for Kigongo.
Among them was Masaka Woman MP Sauda Namaggwa Mugerwa and Masaka DP youth chairman Dennis Lukanga Majwala.
Majwala also doubles as Masaka
municipality speaker.
Kigongo was charged for reportedly claiming that President Museveni knew about the plans to burn the Kasubi tombs and the arsonists who fulfiled this plan.
It was alleged that while at Tabula Byansi Restaurant in Masaka town on March 24, Kigongo stated that the President knew about the plans to burn the tombs.
“This statement was likely to create hatred against the person of the President contrary to the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda,†the chief magistrate said.
Kigongo will appear in court again on April 30, when his case will come up for hearing.
