A second-hand clothes hawker and single mother of three children from Makerere Kivulu got a Easter present after winning a fully furnished apartment in the MTN Goal of Goals World Cup promotion.

Joyce Nalukembe, the second female winner of the apartment, got the keys to the house from MTN Foundation trustee Maria Kiwanuka at the World Cup Village in Namungoona yesterday.

Nalukembe, announced as the winner on Easter Sunday, said after getting the keys that her life as a slum dweller had ended.

“I have not only been saved by moving to a better environment but will also save the money that I have been using for renting,” Nalukembe said.

Nalukembe, who was accompanied at the handover ceremony by her three children, joins the list that has Mbale teacher Teddy Nabukwasi as the first female winner.

The other winners are Amon Turyasingura, Geoffrey Matege, Hamza Yusuf and Swale Yusuf. Six more apartments will be given away before the promotion ends.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is scheduled for June 11 to July 11 in South Africa. Soccer’s premier is coming to the African continent for the first time.
