NGORA MP Francis Epetait faces arrest for failure to ensure that a suspect appears in court, the Buganda Road Court Magistrate has said.

Magistrate Geoffrey Sayekwo said he will order the arrest of Epetait if he does not produce Peter Mukasa in court before April 7.

“The MP should produce Mukasa in court or else I will order his arrest through the Speaker of Parliament,” Sayekwo said during a hearing on Tuesday.

Epetait stood surety for the suspect when he was released on bail.

According to court records, Mukasa, a resident of Luwafu, Makindye division, is facing charges of inciting violence during the demonstration against the Government’s plan to give away Mabira forest in 2007.

The Kitgum MP, Beatrice Anywar and Makindye West MP Hussein Kyanjo are also facing charges of incitement violence and participating in a riot.

Others accused of participating in the riots are former Rubaga North MP Ken Lukyamuzi, DP legal adviser Fred Mbidde and the director of the national Association of Professional Environmentalist, Frank Muramuzi. The court also issued an arrest warrant for Mukasa who has absconded court proceedings since last year.

Sayekwo said he could not proceed with the trial without The case was adjourned to May 4.
