PRIMARY education state minister Kamanda Bataringaya has urged Kampala City Council (KCC) education officials to follow government guidelines on how to achieve quality education.

He said it was the responsibility of stakeholders and pupils to ensure schools meet the standard.
School requirements include a compound, a large play-ground and clean environment.

Bataringaya was speaking at the first education week at Old Kampala Senior School, on Wednesday.

“We have sanitation problems in city schools because some of them lack space to expand. KCC should ensure that the schools have proper sanitation,” he said.

Bataringaya said the education ministry had set aside sh2.5b to ensure that inspectors visit the schools.

The week, which began on Sunday, will draw stakeholders from the education sector, parents and school children.

“We would like to give all stakeholders, parents, teachers, pupils and the public an opportunity to see what takes place in schools and what KCC is doing,” KCC director Anne Galiwango said.

She explained that unlike the previous years where stakeholders were given chance to talk, this time school children would express their massages through poetry, song and dance.

Galiwango said KCC wanted to share challenges in the education sector and also lay strategies to enhance service delivery.
