BOBBY Williamson has again dismissed reports continuously linking him to the vacant coaching seat at the Tanzanian national team. He insists he is only in Dar es Salaam for scouting duty.

“I don’t usually respond to rumours but when my integrity is called into question I need to,” he said on phone.

“I have a good working relationship with everyone at FUFA and I have so much respect for the president (Lawrence Mulindwa).

Williamson insisted yesterday that priorities in Dar are to monitor the development of Uganda’s Tanzania-based stars as he starts to work on a master plan to help Cranes qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup tournament.

Dan Wagaluka (Azam), Robert Ssentongo (Lyon), Joseph Owino, Emma Okwi (both Simba) and Steven Bengo (Yanga) are five players expected to be part of the qualifying project.

“If I wanted to talk to Tanzania or they wanted to talk to me I would have told the FUFA president. I should say I am comfortable in Uganda,” he added.
Aside from speaking to the players, Williamson also built a good rapport with all the coaches where his players’ fitness is concerned before the qualifiers start on September 3.

Williamson’s concerns were largely around Bengo, who has struggled to settle in at Yanga.

“I spoke particularly with Yanga coach Papic and it was a successful discussion.”

The Scot was fortunate to watch Wagaluka and Ssentongo as Azam held Lyon to a 2-2 draw on Monday.
