FORMER uganda telecom Kobs tactician Jeff Mabonga is the national rugby women sevens team coach.

Mabonga, an IRB Level 2 coach replaces David Mutaka who handled the Lady Cranes at their World Cup debut in Dubai last year.

He will be assisted by G4S Pirates star Anthony Kinene, himself an IRB Level 1 coach.

Uganda Rugby Union chairman William Blick made the announcement at a press conference at which he named officials for all the national teams yesterday.

Women 7s captain Helen Buteme and Christine Kizito are U-16 girls coach and assistant team manager respectively.

Kenyan tactician Ham Onsando will handle the Rugby Cranes for the Bamburi Super Series, Elgon Cup and Victoria Cup in a five months contract until September.

“We are confident that these teams will deliver but we shall evaluate their performance before we renew their contracts,” Blick explained.

Jacob Bukenya, the country rugby manager, justified the appointment of active rugby players to handle national teams as a way of building capacity within the union.
