FRED Menhya Kakaire, the chief of Bugweri, one of the 11 traditional counties of Busoga kingdom, has been named acting Isabalangira (chief prince). Kakaire replaces David Kaunhe, who was recently sacked by his clan.
The resolution was made during a meeting at Sunset Hotel in Jinja last week. it was attended by Sam Nabongo, the chief of Busiki county, Eriakesi Kiregeya (Kigulu county), Daudi Kibubuka (Bukhooli county) and Kakaire.
William Gabula Nadiope, the chief of Bugabula county, Luba Munulo of Bunya county, John Ntale of Bunhyole and Charles Mutyaba Nkono of Bukono did not attend but sent apologies.
The meeting also discussed the delay in the election of the kyabazinga (king) and entrusted Kakaire with powers to organise fresh elections.
According to the kingdom constitution, the Isabalangira is supposed to organise the election of a kyabazinga within 60 to 90 days after the death of the incumbent.
However, since the demise of Henry Wako Muloki in September 2008, efforts to replace him have failed. “We would like to assure the people of Busoga that we shall do what is expected of us. We shall meet very soon and elect a kyabazinga,†Kakaire said.
Four of the traditional chiefs were recently dropped by their clans for allegedly being incompetent and failing the election of a kyabazinga.
Kaunhe was replaced by Kibubuka as Bukhooli chief, Patrick Izimba Gologolo of Kigulu was replaced by Eriakesi Kiregeya, Charles Mutyaba Nkono replaced Christopher Mutyaba in Bukono, while Sam Nabongo took over from Yekosofati Kawanguzi as chief of Busiki.
