We no longer have patriotic leaders

YOU may bribe a Ugandan judge and walk away scot free, but on the day of judgement you will not bribe the most high judge who is God. Ugandan leaders should heed to this caution. Our leaders need to sit down and think how they are going to account for their lives and leadership before God.

The leaders of this nation should take note of their decisions and actions especially the high level of corruption that is destroying our nation. In Uganda, corruption is a habitual cancer especially among our leaders. Big sums of money that are meant to help the poor are swindled and divided among a few individuals. All these actions are not hidden away from God.

He sees and records every pain leaders inflict on the poor people by swindling the resources that would have helped them. (Hebrews 4:13). It is unfortunate that most of our leaders no longer love their country. Many of them are concerned about themselves and their families.

Today’s leaders do not seek solutions to the problems of the people they are leading, but they seek for opportunities to enrich themselves. That is why in many districts where NAADS money is sent, the money is not given to the rural poor, but instead this money is given to relatives and those who can afford to bribe leaders.

Our leaders have twisted the Uganda motto from “For God and my Country” to “for me and my family”. We no longer have patriotic leaders, men and women with a heart for their country and the people they lead and serve.

Leaders are not rulers, but are servants. That is they are supposed to respect and serve the interests of their country and the people. Why is it that the trend here in Uganda has changed?
Today, our leaders are confined to their political parties and they cannot think outside the box.

Many of them serve the interests of their own parties, not the interests of the nation and the people. It is high time our leaders understood that even if it is the people who voted them into power, all leadership comes from God. (Romans 13:1.)
