NKUMBA University has begun a diploma in HIV/AIDS education and management this academic year.

It becomes the first university in Uganda to run the course under the department of development and community studies.

The course, developed in collaboration with The AIDS Support Organisation, was designed to enable graduates manage HIV programmes and to provide professional management.

The vice-chancellor, Prof. Paul Mugambi, made the disclosure at the 13th graduation ceremony last week.

Over 5.2 million people were living with HIV by the end of December 2009, according to the health ministry.
