IT was all tears of joy and sorrow as Buddo SS ejected giants St. Mary’s Kitende in a sensational penalty shoot-out in the Copa Coca Cola quarter finals yesterday.

Keeper Ivan Mutumba was Buddo’s hero as he thwarted two penalties of the five time champions. Mutumba’s crucial saves against Deus Bukenya and Joshua Kiraphe sent his side into wild cheers.

Buddo played a defensive game keeping the more attacking Kitende at bay for a 0-0 full time result. Kitende had earlier looked destined for victory in the penalties when their custodian Martin Elungat foiled Fazil Munike’s shot.

But it took the composure of Segawa Kintu, Iddi Babu, Swaibu Mude and Joseph Ocaya who fired home for Buddo.

Kitende almost got a lifeline when referee Joseph Oula penalized keeper Mutumba for stepping off the line as a penalty was being taken. But Buddo sighed with relief as Kiraphe’s second attempt went wide.

Eric Buukya and Sagala Ddumba netted for Kitende. “It was God’s grace and hard work which helped us,” said Buddo striker Joseph Ocaya. But Kitende coach Joseph Kasana blamed the soggy pitch for the defeat.

Meanwhile, Sam Ssimbwa’s stint with Kenyan defending champion’s Sofapaka suffered another dent with 1-all draw with Gor yesterday.
