FUFA was yesterday forced to close the U-20 soccer team camp after Egypt withdrew an invitation for the team to the Football for Youth tournament in in the country’s capital Cairo, reports Swalley Kenyi.

Egyptian Football Federation yesterday cancelled the invitation and opted to replace Uganda with a West African team that is yet to be named. The Egyptians claim they will face the same Ugandan team in the U-20 Africa Youth Championships in August.

The Ugandan team was already preparing for the ten-day tournament fully sponsored and organised by the Egyptian federation from May 17-27.

FUFA publicist Rogers Mulindwa told the weekly press briefing at Mengo that the squad of 30 players, which was undergoing training at Kisubi, had been dissolved.

The decision by the Egyptians surprised FUFA especially after they were already aware that the two countries would clash in the Africa event following Djibouti’s withdrawal in the preliminaries.
