Things are getting out of hand! What are 400 MPs for?

EDITOR—Recently, I wrote a letter saying that after turning every county into a district, sub-counties would also start agitating for a district status. It is barely one week and what do we see†“Parliament approves nine new counties†(The New Vision, May 6).
The 9th Parliament after the 2011 general elections, will be 60 seats bigger than the current one. There are 333 MPs in the 8th Parliament. But with 14 new districts created last year—and another 15 approved two weeks ago, and the nine new counties, the 9th Parliament will have 400 MPs!
The Parliamentary Service Commission has asked for sh79b to construct a bigger Parliament which can accommodate all the ‘Honourables’! I am reluctant to call our MPs honourable any more judging from their behaviour in Parliament!
Is this a serious Parliament or it is just a bunch of human beings whose objective is to eat until their stomachs burst?
From district craze now comes the county craze! Every sub-county will want a county status, and once that is done, every parish will ask for a sub-county status and the malaise will never end!
Don’t we have planners who are paid in this country to do the planning? Must everything in this country start and end with Parliament? In all fairness, what does Uganda need 400 MPs for? Madness! Ntegye Asiimwe Kampala
