Amolator RDC Ongora Atwai dead

THE Amolator Resident District Commissioner (RDC), the Rev. Ongora Atwai, is dead. Atwai, 71, died of prostate cancer at Lira Hospital in northern Uganda.

THE Amolator Resident District Commissioner (RDC), the Rev. Ongora Atwai, is dead. Atwai, 71, died of prostate cancer at Lira Hospital in northern Uganda.

According to his son, Geoffrey Ongora, the chronic ailment was detected in October 2008, at Mulago Cancer Institute in Kampala.

The deceased was a member on the board of directors of The New Vision, then a corporation, from 1991 to 1996.

Atwai represented Lira Municipality in Parliament from 1989 to 1996, before becoming the Uganda Wildlife Authority board member.

A professional teacher, Atwai headed several schools in the then Lango district, before joining Ngeta College, where he doubled as the Church of Uganda minister and lecturer.

Atwai joined politics in 1986 when he became the Lira sub-county boss. He is among the people, who incessantly pressed for a district status for Amolator, a wish that was granted recently.

He is survived by five children and a wife. Burial is set for Ireda, Lira Municipality.
