I am disappointed with my MP, Charles Olweny of Usuku, for proposing that only Uganda Revenue Authority workers be given a salary increment and not all civil servants.

URA workers are not special
I am disappointed with my MP, Charles Olweny of Usuku, for proposing that only Uganda Revenue Authority workers be given a salary increment and not all civil servants.

Remember the services we (other workers) render are equally important for the development of the country.
Waswa Barasa, Usuku

The observation is genuine, all civil servants deserve a pay rise. However, URA’s demands should be prioritised given that it has introduced a modern tax collection system that requires specialists who are on high demand.

URA has for long complained that they always want to keep their specialists but are unable to because of poor pay. As Parliament, we need to support them because URA collects taxes that run the country.

For instance the President has always supported a pay rise for scientists but it does not mean he is against other people getting a pay rise.

MP Olweny

What became of your promise, Banyenzaki?
Last year, you promised us that Rubanda County would be on the list of new districts. What happened?
William Rutechura

The committee on local government recommended to Parliament that Rubanda be granted district status. The report was adopted and we are waiting for the bill from cabinet.

The local government minister has also promised that Rubanda will be on the next list.

MP Henry Banyenzaki
