HIV: Why do lips turn red?

Dear Doctor
Why do HIV-positive people develop red lips and what’s the cure? What can happen if an HIV positive person uses both treatments like the recommended tablets for AIDS and herbal medicines? An HIV positive person with a normal CD4 count is advised to take two septrines daily, why? And what are the advantages of septrine to an HIV positive person?

Dear Deo,
THE course of HIV/AIDS treatment is so aggressive to most parts of the body and weakens the cells. It causes inflammation of the softer membranes of the body like the eyes, ears, lips, intestines, the mouth and private parts.

After the inflammation, the ulcers of the lips (Apthous) remain below the skin surface because they don’t exfoliate (remove dead skin). However, not everybody that has red lips has HIV.

The red lips can be cured by using antifungal and antibiotics. We know how the ARV has been work and under what conditions. However, no research about herbal medicine reactions with the ARV, so I would not recommend you to do that, just continue with the ARV.

Septrin protects people with HIV/AIDS from a multitude of diseases like malaria, pneumonia, tuberculosis, intestinal and protozoan infections.
