THE special forces killed three Tepeth warriors and captured three others on the Uganda-Kenya border over the weekend . The warriors had raided 30 head of cattle from Kenya.

Following a tip-off, the forces reportedly laid an ambush at Nawet village in Katikekile sub-county, about 2km from the Uganda-Kenya border. Two guns were recovered during the 15-minute fire exchange.

It was the first encounter between the commandos, headed by Lt. Col. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the warriors since the special unit was deployed in Moroto district last month.
The forces have deployed in Katikekile and Mt. Moroto, which the Tepeth occupy, to beef up UPDF efforts in the ongoing disarmament exercise in Karamoja.

Capt. Henry Obbo, the UPDF 3rd Division spokesperson, said the warriors were part of a notorious group which used to wreck havoc in Karamoja before fleeing to Kenya.

It is illegal for soldiers to cross territorial boundaries to pursue criminals in another state without permission from relevant authorities.

Addressing residents of the newly-created Amudat district at Pokot Secondary School on May 14, President Yoweri Museveni blamed the army leaders in Karamoja for failing to stop the persistent cattle raids in the region.

Museveni directed the soldiers to kill armed raiders who enter Uganda.
