A casual labourer from West Nile for whom sh20,000 is the biggest amount of money ever held; a single mother from Makerere Kivulu who hawks clothes around town; a truck driver from Moyo, a plumber from Mukono District; a manager of one of Lira’s leading night clubs; a primary school teacher from Sironko district; and a flourishing Kampala businessman.

What kind of party could people of such varied backgrounds attend and have the limelight on each one of them? If you are thinking of a church confirmation ceremony, or a mass wedding, you have it wrong.

These people and five others won a fully-furnished house in the just-concluded MTN Goal of Goals promotion, and last Friday they got together to jointly celebrate their luck.

At the newly-constructed Namungoona Housing Estates where the houses are located, the winners partied late into the night with their families and friends.

Some of the winners were so excited, they were visiblyintoxicated and blew a vuvuzela (plastic trumpet) throughout the party.

Singer Haruna Mubiru served a couple of his hits. The Goal of Goals, conducted by MTN was a drive to get people ready for the World Cup as well as to make the first African World Cup a memorable one for Ugandans.

Other goodies won include refrigerators, plasma screens and home theatres.
