A SURVEY to find out how easy it is for people with disabilities (PWDs) to access micro-finance services is to be conducted, writes Aidah Nanyonjo.

The Association of Microfinance Institutions of Uganda (AMFIU) and the Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU) will carry out the study.

It also aims at establishing the level and the kind of financial services persons with disabilities get.

Ways to improve PWDs access to micro-finance services in the selected districts will also be devised.

“The overall objective of the project is to increase access to sustainable micro-finance services for persons with disabilities,” a notice indicated.

The study will be undertaken in Masaka, Rakai, Mbarara, Kasese, Bushenyi, Rukungiri and Kisoro districts.

It will be conducted among specific target groups to establish a yard stick from which result-oriented projections can be set to enable smooth execution of the project.

The target groups include PWDs operating small and medium enterprises, staff plus management of micro-finance institutions and other financial service providers.

AMFIU, therefore, seeks competent constultants to undertake the study.

The project is funded by the Norwegians, AMFIU and NUDIPU.

A pilot project has been going on.
