JACKSON Kiprop’s dream of building a permanent house started taking shape yesterday when he won the 21km in the second edition of the Hared Source of the Nile marathon.

“I’ll use the sh1.5m prize to start construction in Arokwo, Kapchorwa. It’s time to move out of a grass thatched house,” declared the 28 year old Uganda Prisons warder after sprinting to the finish.

Kiprop, a runner-up in the 2009 MTN marathon, was in Jinja always destined for victory.

The long striding athlete was part of the leading pack until the 10th kilometre when he broke away. “I realised there wasn’t a serious challenge, so I sped ahead,” said Kiprop at the end of the event presided over by NRM chief whip Daudi Migereko.

Thomas Ayeko, who won the men’s 10km, also had a similar dream like Kiprop.

“It was a tough race but I badly wanted the sh1.5m to complete my house so I went all out,” revealed Ayeko.

He battled neck-to-neck with Standard High School’s Ben Siwa, Timothy Toroitich and Dickson Kuru until the seventh kilometre when he broke away.

Another prison warder Janet Achola also showed the fruits of coach Nalis Bigingo’s training expertise. She dominated the women’s 10km leading for the entire race where former world champion Dorcus Inzikuru was fifth.

Inzikuru, who dropped out of the MTN race last year, was full of cheers. “The fact that I’ve finished in a good position, is a sign of a good season,” she stated.
