TORO king Oyo Nyimba Rukidi IV wants to become a professional soldier. He said he wants to join the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom because it is where princes William and Harry, the sons of Prince Charles and the late Princess of Wales, Diana, attained their training.
President Yoweri Museveni’s son, Lt. Col. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is now the commander of the UPDF Special Forces, also passed through Sandhurst.
Oyo made the remarks on Friday after completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma at Kampala International School, Uganda.
The king, who turned 18 last month, was among 16 graduands.
The diploma is an alternative to A’ Level and is a customised two-year curriculum that prepares students normally aged 16 to 19 for university education. It is recognised in most of the world’s leading universities.
The diploma affords students studying in Uganda access to the same quality of education being enjoyed by their peers all over the world.
Oyo thanked his teachers and classmates for their support. His childhood friend, Kunal Shah, said Oyo is a good leader.
“He has helped me whenever I am down for all the years we have been together,†Shah said.
The school’s board chairman, Brain Glover, advised the graduands to work hard in order to be successful.
The co-ordinator of the programme, Marie Kamure, said the graduands had acquired skills that would prepare them to play significant roles in the development of their communities.
The Tooro Queen mother Best Kemigisa attended the ceremony.
