A total of 432 Christians in Ankole diocese were on Sunday installed as pillars of the church. The Ankole bishop, the Rt. Rev. George Tibesigwa, officiated at the function held at St. James Cathedral Ruharo, Mbarara town.

The pillars were drawn from the archdeaconries of Bujaga, Kabingo, Ibanda, Greater Mbarara, Kitagata, Kinoni, Rukoni, Deanery, Rutooma, Kyamate, Kakinga, Rwantsinga, and the bishop’s office.

Among them were the animal industry state minister, Lt. Col. Bright Rwamirama, Maj. Gen. Benon Biraaro, the Bukanga MP, Nathan Byanyima, and Justice Yorokamu Bamwine.

City tycoon Gordon Wavamunno, his wife Maureen Wavamunno Aligawesa, James Tumusiime, the director of Fountain Publishers, Justice Alfred Karokora and Justice John Wilson Kwesiga were also installed pillars.

Another 18 religious and two retired clergymen, the reverends Martin Nshemereirwe and Elizah Rwebyambu, were ordained canons, while 33 Christians were installed lay canons.

Tibesigwa explained that those ordained exhibited spiritual, evangelistic, educational and economic support, and offered their property, time and talents to the church ministry.

The bishop asked the pillars to institute the culture of unity and forgiveness.
