THE Police in Kibaale district are investigating reports that Rwandan women are ferried into the district and married off in exchange for money, reports Ismael Kasooha.
The district secretary for community affairs, Chrizestom Lubowa, said the matter was being investigated by the district security committee.
“You never know, these people could have a hidden agenda. They might destabilise our district,†Lubowa said.
The investigations followed an incident where a woman said to be from Rwanda died at Kayanja village in Kibaale district a week after she was brought into the country.
The woman was identified as Venerand Dushabe, who is said to have been married to a man only identified as Tugume.
The matter was reported by residents who refused to bury the woman without clearance from the Police and other relevant authorities.
Eric Wabwire, the acting officer in charge Kagadi Police Station, said: “We have made no arrests so far but we have opened up a general inquiry file to unearth the racket.â€
