TODAY, is the start of a journey that will take us through 64 games at the World Cup. For those who could not make it South Africa, Michael Kanaabi and John Agaba bring you some of the places around Kampala where you can catch the action.

Kyadondo Rugby club
For the first time ever, Ugandans will have the chance to get a stadium feel of the World Cup as Silk Events, Vision Voice, UBC TV and Guinness have come together to turn Kyadondo Rugby Club into a semblance of a soccer stadium with giant screens.

Moses Opolot, Silk Events’ public relations officer says all the weekend games shall be screened live, starting today. “All you need is to buy two bottles of Guiness at sh5,000 to gain free entrance to the venue.”

There will be live performances from artistes to add flair and prizes to be won. A small pitch will also be set up for those who want to showcase their football skills.

Nakivubo Stadium
MTN, Events Warehouse and Coca Cola will also start screening matches today.
Sheila Kangwagye, the public relations officer of MTN, says: “Fans will part with sh2,000 and will be given a coke plus an MTN airtime card worth sh1,000 as they enter the stadium.

The games will be shown on giant screens. We have lined up artistes like Grace Nakimera, Rabadaba and Eagles Production to add fun to the games. After Friday’s games, we shall take a break but will be back to screen the quarter finals all the way to the finals.”

Pubs/ Bars
A-Y bar in Makindye: Entrance will be free and beer goes for between sh2,500 and 3,000. The games will be screened on large LCD screens.

Nyondo Pub, Entebbe Road: Will have a Guinness promotion where people will get free goodies.

Just Kicking: There will not be any entrance fee but one has to buy a drink to be able to watch the games.

Church
All Saints Cathedral will, today, screen the opening games on big screen. Moses Kibwota, one of the organisers, says there will be lots of mchomo, games, face painting, pool tables and a bouncing castle for the children. All this at a fee of sh5,000 for adults and sh2,000 for children. The proceeds from this event will go towards the recently launched building project.

Betting places
Frank Kafero, Gaming International’s public relations officer, says on top of the usual bets placed on games, they will screen the games at their expansive Nalubwama House headquarters in downtown Kampala. They will also offer free Internet services, snacks and drinks plus great music mixes.
